Following up on the article on energy gels, this discussion turns to their nutritional value and deciding which one will work the best for you. Gu, PowerGel, Crank e-Gel, Hammer Gel and Clif Shot are some of the most popular gels and, surprisingly, more similar nutritionally than you might expect.


  A Different Approach To Training: Less Effort, More Results

A lot of people have been asking me lately how fast should they be running. It seems that left unanswered, most runners tend to lean toward hard daily runs with labored breathing. While this is the most common type of run, I dont believe its the most effective way to spend your time. Even if your big race is looming, there are better ways to structure your training. Rather than getting into a whole seminar about how to structure intervals, speed work or heart rate in relation to race schedule, I am merely going to suggest that we take a look at training aerobically.

As endurance athletes we face many obstacles in our effort to meet our goals. Training, nutrition, stretching and rest are the main concerns of our preparation. What about race day problems that we cannot always be prepared for, though? What about heat, wind and rain? All of these environmental factors can negate months of focused training and sacrifice.
